Jake Millan: Founder and Principal Consultant

Jake’s journey in the renewable energy sector is deeply rooted in his upbringing in the Pacific Northwest, where he developed a profound connection to the environment. Inspired by his father, an avid outdoorsman, and his grandfather, a forester and former forest fire-fighter who contributed to the creation of the Pacific Crest Trail, Jake’s passion for sustainability was ignited early on in his life.

During his university years in Montana, Jake’s adventurous spirit led him to a summer on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska, where he discovered a fascination with diesel engines and their ability to do real work. This interest evolved into a career in biodiesel manufacturing at Imperium Renewables, where he played a pivotal role in producing the first Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) used by Virgin Atlantic in 2007 in an unmodified 747.

Jake’s career path took him through various sustainability-focused startups in the Bay Area, including heavy-duty trucking, before he found his true calling at Tesla in 2014. At Tesla Energy, Jake was instrumental in the early development and deployment of the Tesla Megapack, working on solar + storage and remote microgrid projects worldwide. He also helped pioneer Tesla’s data center products, ensuring critical backup for mission critical facilities during grid outages.

After seven impactful years at Tesla, Jake took a step back to spend time with his family and travel to New Zealand. He then worked with high-quality Swiss solar panel manufacturer Meyer Burger before establishing his own consulting practice in Seattle, WA.

Jake now offers his extensive expertise to companies and projects, providing valuable insights and sound advice for renewable energy projects. If you have questions about any project that has to do with electrification or renewable energy, reach out to Jake for help.
